Expert Advice – Pairing Beer with Thanksgiving Dinner

– by Kendall Jones, Washington Beer Blog

Thanksgiving is almost here and many of us are already thinking about what kind of beer to serve alongside the turkey. Here’s an opportunity for you to get some expert advice about pairing beer with a traditional thanksgiving meal.

A few weeks ago I told you about Marination Ma Kai, the new beer and food destination near Seattle’s Alki Beach. If you want to know more about this new beer+food spot, and its lovely location on Elliott Bay, I encourage you to read our post Marination Ma Kai: the best beer garden in Seattle. I felt compelled to tell you the story of Marination Ma Kai because it dishes out some seriously creative, tasty food and pairs it with eight taps dedicated to craft beer. What’s more, the restaurant hired Robyn Shumacher to be part of the team. Robyn is the first female in the Pacific Northwest to earn her Certified Cicerone® credentials. (A Cicerone is to the beer world as a sommelier is to the wine world.) Marination Ma Kai makes the best Spam Sliders in the world, but they are also serious about beer.

Robyn told us she planned on doing beer events at Marination Ma Kai. Now that the restaurant is open she is making good on her word. Next Tuesday, November 20th from 6:00 – 7:00, Robyn will host an educational event: Beer + Turkey, pairing beer with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Not only will she discuss Thanksgiving beer choices, she’ll discuss beer and food pairing in general. This will be the first event that she’s hosted; there will be more.

For $25 you get five beer samples for the pairing class, along with a couple of tacos or sliders. You will also get a discount on pints after the class. If you are interested in attending, or want more information, send Robyn an email – Robyn at Marination.com.
