Boundary Bay Brewing

Few businesses are as involved with their communities as Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro. The list of local charities the brewery supports is longer than your arm. When locals say, “Let’s go to the pub,” they are most likely talking about Boundary Bay. Bellingham happily supports two other breweries, but the city adores Boundary Bay Brewing. For almost 20 years now, college students and faculty, families, wayward skiers and hikers, and pretty much everyone else in Bellingham has mingled over pints of Boundary Bay’s award winning beer.
Boundary Bay Brewery opened in 1995, the brainchild of Ed Bennett. He began looking for locations in 1992, scouring the Northwest for the perfect spot. He checked out Tacoma, Mount Vernon, Everett, and Bellingham. Something about Bellingham just seemed right. In 1993 Ed signed a lease for a historic property in downtown Bellingham. The building was originally constructed in 1922 as a transit company station.
Ed Bennett is an educated man. He has an undergraduate degree in accounting, along with masters degrees in finance and wine chemistry. After he graduated from college for the final time, he was perfectly positioned to go to work in the wine industry. Then beer spoke to Ed. He decided that beer was just a better fit for his personality and he made up his mind to open a brewery. The rest is history.
Upon opening, the brewery almost immediately won the hearts of the community. The beer is award-winning and the food is outstanding. The brewery and bistro just seem to fit the Bellingham lifestyle - casual, friendly, and community-minded. Today Boundary Bay is more popular than ever. When the weather permits, be sure to spend some time in the beer garden - perhaps one of the best beer gardens in the state.
