Iron Goat Brewing

Tucked away in a neighborhood just east of downtown Spokane, you will find Iron Goat Brewing’s tasting room. Usually, it is packed.

Note the small, iron statue of a goat on the bar. Back in 1974 Spokane hosted EXPO 74, the first environmentally themed world’s fair. What is now Riverfront Park was originally the fairgrounds. One of the remnants from the fair is a large iron, garbage-eating goat: a fanciful garbage can, essentially. The Iron Goat is well-known to the people of Spokane. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet the artist responsible for designing and building the famous iron goat, and the smaller one that sits on the bar. She’s a 92 year-old nun with an affection for the brewery’s Imperial IPA. The Head Butt IPA is solid, as is the Goatmeal Stout. If you can get your hands on one of the barrel-aged beers, don’t let go. Just drink.
