A Particularly Adventurous IPA, Benefits National Parks

In 2012, Joel Vandenbrink hiked the Wonderland Trail solo. It's a 93-mile loop that essentially circles the base of Mount Rainier—all the way around, up and down, a total of 22,000 feet of elevation gain. It is a bone-crushing, back-breaking hike no matter how you do it, but doing it solo is... well, some might call it psycho. But Joel, the founder of Two Beers Brewing, needed some time to clear his mind, so he hit the trail alone. That life-changing adventure has now spawned a new beer: Wonderland Trail IPA.
“The challenges I faced on that trail and the beauty it revealed left me more appreciative than ever for this amazing place we call home. This beer is my dedication to not only that trail and those that have seen it through 100 years of adventure, but it’s also our small way of giving back to the treasures we find all throughout the Pacific Northwest.”
Joel Vandenbrink and Two Beers Brewing developed this hop-forward beer to honor the treasures of the Pacific Northwest—the hikes, the hops and all. Wonderland Trail IPA features five varieties of Yakima-grown hops, and clocks in at 7.1 percent ABV and 84 IBUs. Wonderland Trail IPA hits the market the week of November 2 and will be available in 12-ounce cans and on draft. Actually, you can get it this Friday, October 30th at the brewery's tasting room in SoDo.
Because this beer holds special meaning for the Two Beers Brewing team, and because this is the trail’s 100-year anniversary, the release of Wonderland Trail IPA will also act as a fundraiser for the Washington's National Park Fund. Our National Parks are woefully underfunded treasures. In particular, the beer will help fund maintenance efforts for the Wonderland Trail.
Between November 2nd and 12th, Two Beers Brewing will host a series of fundraising events around the Seattle-Tacoma area to benefit Washington's National Parks Fund (listed below). Then on November 19th at The Woods tasting room at the brewery, a big event will feature raffle prizes, giveaways, and $1 off all pints of Wonderland Trail IPA. All proceeds benefit the cause. Beyond that, Two Beers Brewing plans to host additional events, hikes and fundraisers throughout the year.
Perhaps you remember all of those IPA-x beers they've been serving at the Two Beers Brewing tasting room over the past couple years. Wonderland Trail IPA is the product of nearly two years of recipe development. The beer features a blend of Washington-grown hops and is described as a flavorful Northwest-style IPA brewed with Amarillo, Mosaic, Legacy and Cascade hops, then dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic hops, complemented by 2-Row, Vienna and Munich malts. On the nose, a slightly sweet aroma of tangerine is followed by a wave of citrus and passion fruit on the palate, finishing clean and refreshing.
