Beer Church Holiday Ale release party - Wednesday, Nov. 19
November 17, 2014 - 11:32 AM- by Kendall Jones, Washington Beer Blog -
It's that time of year again. Time for us to release Beer Church Holiday Ale. This is the fifth year that Beer Church (the philanthropic arm of the Washington Beer Blog) set out to celebrate the season by brewing a beer to benefit a worthy cause.
Actually, we brewed five beers this year, each brewed by a different local brewery: Airways Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, Naked City Brewing, and Two Beers Brewing. The beer benefits the NW Chapter - Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
All five versions of the beer will be released at a special event next Wednesday, November 19 at Naked City Brewery and Taphouse. The fun gets started at 5:00 P.M. in the Naked City Screening Room, where you'll have an opportunity to sample them all side by side. Get all five samples (six oz) for $10, with a portion of the sales donated to the cause. Of course, you can also buy pints of each beer.
Thereafter, we'll pour all five versions of Beer Church Holiday Ale at Beer Church Turkey Bowl on Saturday, November 22nd at West Seattle Bowl. Beyond that, some of the beer will find its way to local pubs around the greater Seattle area. Keep an eye on the Beer Church Facebook page to see where the beer is available.
About the Beer
The hops were donated by Puterbaugh Farms—Belma hops, a fairly new hop variety. Though most people are unfamiliar with this variety, the word we keep hearing used to describe the flavor and aroma is strawberry. We'll see. The base malt was donated by Great Western Malting. Each brewery donated time and additional ingredients beyond that. Each brewer decided what to do in order to give it their own twist.
Our basic instructions where to make a beer that was about six percent ABV, a pale ale by its basic nature, but showcase the hops. Beyond that, each brewery was free to do as it pleased.
