Washington brings home medals from Great American Beer Festival

Congratulations to the nine Washington breweries that brought home ten medals from the Great American Beer Festival this year. Six of the ten medals were gold! See the list of Washington winners below. Click here to see the complete list of winners. The event took place last week in Denver and the winners were announced on Saturday.

Only a couple dozen of our Washington breweries attended the GABF this year. Given that fact, it’s impressive to bring home this many medals. Recognize that these days there are about 3,000 breweries in America, so the competition is increasingly stiff.  Not only is it increasingly difficult to bring home a medal, it is increasingly difficult to register for the competition; there is only room for so many breweries. The online registration process has become rather troublesome.

All that said, this is still the largest and most-prestigious beer judging competition in North America. So cheers to Washington’s winners!

Note: Pyramid Breweries is still based in Seattle, though most of the beer is brewed elsewhere.

Note: Because of the way things are categorized, Gordon Biersch Seattle was not credited with the win, but the Gordon Biersch Helles, which won Gold, was in fact brewed by Kevin Davey at the Seattle brewery.
