New Beer Bar Coming to West Seattle

West Seattle is about to get a new beer bar. Copper Coin will open Monday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the space formerly occupied by The Porterhouse. In addition to serving lunch and dinner, the restaurant and bar features over 20 craft beers on tap. I stopped by the other day and snapped a few pictures (below).
The building, located immediately north of the historic Admiral Theater, sat empty for about eight months before capturing the attention of Aaron Shepherd, the proprietor at Copper Coin. Shepherd brings some experience to the venture. He is the owner of Hill’s Neighborhood Restaurant in Shoreline.
Expect the crowd on Monday night to be insane: the neighborhood is thirsty for a good beer bar. The official grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday. Monday’s event will be a “not-so-soft” soft opening. Think of it as a stress test on the kitchen and bar, which will both be pushed to the limit.
According to Copper Coin’s website, “Our mission is to create a room that communicates our passion for fresh quality ingredients in both food and drink. The dining table is a place for our neighbors to come together and celebrate with us the bounty of the NW. We have it all here; wild Sockeye Salmon, Yakima Valley hops, Walla Walla sweets, Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, and Penn Cove shellfish to name a few. Our city produces a robust basket of beer, wine, and food capable of matching any in the world. This is worth celebrating seven days a week!”
The closure of The Porterhouse last December created a massive void for beer drinkers. West Seattle has no shortage of places to drink beer, but Copper Coin is located in the Admiral District on the north end of California Avenue. It is 1.5 miles north of Elliott Bay Brewery and Pub, and 2.5 miles north of Beveridge Place Pub (blog sponsor). There are a couple of good options for beer drinkers in the neighborhood, but nothing with such a large selection of draft beer.
I stopped by Copper Coin the other day and looked at the tap lineup. I was happy to see that they apparently intend to continue where The Porterhouse left off in terms of beer. It was not without its issues, but the beer lineup at The Porterhouse was always excellent.
The chef was there cooking some samples for the staff and I was fortunate enough to try some of the food: wild mushroom risotto with roasted veggies with tarragon. I was impressed. The regular menu will feature soups and salads, burgers, fish tacos, a kid's menu (required in this neighborhood) and other elevated pub grub.
