Republic Brewing

Where is Republic Brewing Company? Well, it is in Ferry County, one of the most scenic and undisturbed corners of the United States. To be more precise, it is over five hours from Seattle in the small town of Republic, Washington. It’s over an hour northeast of Omak. It is off the beaten path. It’s out there. The boonies. One of the most beautiful things about Washington’s vibrant craft beer scene, even a tiny town in one of the most remote regions of the state has a brewery.

Billy and Emily Burt, two long-time locals, operate Republic Brewing Company. In opening the brewery, their goal was to provide locally brewed beer in a friendly taproom where people can relax and sip a pint. The taproom is a community-gathering place where you will often hear live music on the weekends. Beyond peanuts, they do not serve food but patrons are welcome to bring in their own food from one of the nearby restaurants.

The brewery pumps out a variety of beers ranging from a traditional Kolsch to Belgian Triple and everything in between. With six beers on tap at any given time, Billy has a regular rotation of about 16 beers he likes to brew. Billy started homebrewing while he was in college at the University of Montana (go Grizzlies!). Over the years, he advanced his skills until he went pro in 2011 when he and Emily opened Republic Brewing. His philosophy is simple: “Is there a better application of the scientific method, than the pursuit of perfect beer?”

This is not the first Republic Brewing Company. The original brewery operated three miles east of the current location, providing beer to gold miners from the 1890’s until it closed at the onset of Prohibition. People no longer flock to Republic in search of their fortune in gold. Rather, they come in search of breathtaking scenery, serenity, and a relaxed pace of life. Billy and Emily are happy to provide the beer.
